A decade of growth

More than a decade ago, when our Board of Trustees began planning to expand the hospital to ensure that we could meet the changing needs of our community, we started the Pavilions Project.

Thanks to extraordinary support for our capital campaign from the community, hospital employees, physicians, and volunteers, we added 200,000 square feet, the single largest construction project ever at Community Hospital.

The opening of the South and Forest pavilions enabled Community Hospital to better serve its patients, with everything from an expanded Emergency department to the ability to perform complex heart surgeries.

But this project was not all about new buildings and the latest technology. We remain deeply committed not only to delivering the highest-quality care, but to delivering it with a human touch.

Community Hospital has always been a place where skilled teams of nurses, doctors, and technologists practice state-of-the-art medicine in an environment that fosters healing. A place where patients come first.

With the opening of the pavilions, our Emergency department quadrupled in size, allowing us to care for more than 55,000 patients annually. It includes 20 new treatment rooms and three Express Care rooms (for quicker treatment of less critical patients), a bigger waiting area, and the latest technology. What this means for patients is access to the best in emergency medicine, as well as greater comfort, privacy, and confidentiality.

Our ICU includes 20 rooms, twice as many as in the previous ICU, and is nearly five times the original size. The additional space allows us to provide the most advanced life-saving equipment to benefit our sickest patients.

The South Pavilion houses eight state-of-the-art operating suites. Two of those suites are designed to allow Community Hospital to perform cardiovascular surgeries. Patients who previously had to leave the Peninsula for certain surgeries now can stay closer to home. And we have maximized our ability to save lives when minutes count.

Comprehensive cardiovascular care

Community Hospital will continue to offer the same high-quality cardiac services it always has, plus the capability to fully treat critical cardiac patients with everything from initial diagnosis to the most complex surgeries.

Forest Pavilion patient roomForest Pavilion

Four decades ago, we were one of the first hospitals in the country to offer all patients private rooms. We continued that commitment with 120 spacious, new patient rooms, each equipped with a private bathroom and shower, and comfortable daybeds for family or visitors who wish to spend the night. Every detail of these rooms was designed with the patient in mind. The Forest Pavilion also includes visitor waiting areas overlooking a waterfall and Healing Garden.
Spacious patient rooms are available in the Forest Pavilion.

Renovations

With the South and Forest Pavilions complete, Community Hospital has been undergoing renovations in other parts of the hospital. In 2009, we have opened an advanced radiology department, two new cardiac cath labs, a meditation room, and other facilities, and work is ongoing.
