Free skin cancer screenings will be provided from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at
Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula
.
The screenings, sponsored by Community Hospital, the American Academy
of Dermatology, Central Coast Dermatology, and local dermatologists,
are part of a national campaign during Skin Cancer Awareness Month to
encourage early detection and teach prevention. Skin cancer is the most
common form of cancer in the United States and more than 1 million new
cases will be diagnosed this year.
“Current estimates are that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer
in their lifetime,” says Dr. Richard Hambley, a dermatologist
organizing the screening. “The key to the successful treatment of most
types of cancer is early detection and treatment.”
Space is limited and registration is required by calling 625-4753.
