Leaving a legacy
She was having trouble breathing. At nearly 101 years old, she wasn’t surprised, but she was tired. The nurse at her Carmel care facility called the paramedics, who came to administer oxygen and bundle her into an ambulance for a trip to Community Hospital for further observation.
It certainly wasn’t her first trip to the hospital on the hill, but something in her wink and her wave at the door told her nurse it might be her last.
Once she was admitted to her room, a nurse checked her vital signs, plumped up her pillow and asked if she thought she might need anything. She thought not. Then she settled into her covers, took a slow, deep breath and passed away.
She left her estate to the hospital.
If medicine is the heart of the hospital, then philanthropy is the soul. As a nonprofit organization, Community Hospital benefits significantly from the generosity of our community. Since 1934, philanthropy has played a crucial role in helping us improve patient-care services and meet changing community needs. As a result, Community Hospital is recognized as a leader in providing the highest standard of care available. In today’s challenging healthcare environment, raising charitable funds has become imperative in continuing that level of distinction.
