MONTEREY, Calif. — Local celebrity chef Todd Fisher will prepare food that’s good and good for you — and become the first member of Community Hospital’s Peninsula Wellness Center at a special event this weekend in Marina.
Fisher has built his reputation around the Peninsula in restaurants from Stillwater Bar & Grill in Pebble Beach to Hullabaloo in Salinas and now through The Kitchen, his catering company and food studio in Sand City. On Saturday, the first day of the two-day membership kickoff event for Peninsula Wellness Center, Fisher will prepare and serve dishes including a fruit and granola parfait, turkey meatloaf incorporating vegetables and whole grains, and a smoothie.
Fisher will also fill out a membership form — becoming the first member from the general public.
The 34,000-square-foot center is under construction at Imjin Parkway and Second Avenue in Marina, across from the Dunes Shopping Center, which includes REI and Target. The wellness center, scheduled to open in mid-2011, will offer a unique combination of fitness and clinical expertise currently not available in the region. The center will serve members of the general public who want to develop and follow a health and wellness program in a monitored setting, as well as patients referred by their doctors.
Peninsula Wellness Center will include:
- a cardiovascular fitness and rehabilitation area
- indoor lap and therapy pools
- physical, speech, and occupational therapy
- areas for strength training and classes
- locker rooms
The center will adjoin a 27,500-square-foot medical office building that will be home to Peninsula Primary Care, a satellite laboratory, X-ray services, and urgent care, bringing a range of needed healthcare services to Marina and the surrounding area.
Information about the center and membership details are being provided at this weekend’s kickoff event, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a tent in the Target/REI parking lot, across from the Peninsula Wellness Center construction site. Fisher will appear on Saturday only. Special incentives are being provided to those who sign up early. For membership information, please call (831) 883-5656.
