MONTEREY,
Calif. — Devices that can help people who
suffer from sleep apnea will be featured at an equipment fair of Alert, Well,
and Keeping Energized, (AWAKE), a support group at Community Hospital of the
Monterey Peninsula.
An estimated 18 million Americans suffer from sleep
apnea, a disorder that causes people to stop breathing during their sleep. Left
untreated, sleep apnea increases the risk of heart disease, high blood
pressure, stroke, and other health conditions. Treatment devices such as continuous
positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines, will be shown at the product
fair.
The event
is from 6:45-8:15 p.m. Monday, July 16 in conference rooms A and B at Community
Hospital. It is free and open to the public. For more information, call Community
Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center at 649-7210.
