Peninsula Wellness Center offers free kid’s water safety class for community

MARINA, Calif. — Peninsula Wellness Center, an affiliate of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, is offering a free water safety course on May 3, 2015 to members of the community. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. kids ages 4-12, will learn water safety tips from instructors using the American Red Cross Longfellow’s WHALE Tales program. WHALE stands for Water Habits Are Learned Early.

The two hour class will include tips in and out of the water around water safety in various environments. Some tips include:

  • How to float in the water without aid devices
  • How to reach for a person close-by
  • What to look for or do before going in the water
  • Swimming with a buddy
  • Importance of wearing a life jacket
  • Sun safety
  • Boat safety
  • Cold water safety

Membership to Peninsula Wellness Center is not required for this special class. Attendees must register for the class as space is limited. Children should wear swimsuits and bring a towel, as a portion of the class will take place in the Peninsula Wellness Center pool.
