Community Hospital medical staff awards scholarships

MONTEREY, Calif. - Fourteen local students have been awarded scholarships by the medical staff of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

The Medical Staff Scholarships range from $100 to $1,500 and are based on academic achievement, contributions to school and community, and participation in extracurricular activities. Applicants must be a child or grandchild of the medical staff at Community Hospital, a high school junior or senior or community college student; county resident for at least a year; and have a desire to attend a four-year college.

This year's winners are: Kaitlin Avalos-Feehan, Susan DiSario, Taylor Herhusky, Kelsey Hightower, Mark Howard, Tara Johnson, Kendall Keith, Andre LaMothe, Andrew Landon, Samuel Lurie, Christopher Mitchell, Matthew Nervino, James Ramseur, and Sam Whitlock. Johnson, Landon, and Ramseur are high school juniors; the other recipients are seniors.

Doctors who are members of the medical staff at Community Hospital have provided more than $35,000 to Monterey County students since establishing the scholarship program in 2001.
