Dr. Soteria Karahalios helps increase awareness about risks of heart disease in women
With Dr. Soteria Karahalios, medical director of non-invasive cardiovascular services, and a team of clinicians leading the way, the Women's HeartAdvantage program was the focus of a morning breakfast and afternoon tea for Community Hospital employees. Those in attendance learned about the symptoms, treatment, and outcomes for women with heart disease. Dr. Terrance Moran, Cardiopulmonary Wellness medical director, also spoke about prevention.
In addition, a community health fair was held at the hospital in early February. More than 250 people had access to free cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, and body mass index testing. Many attendees also took advantage of an opportunity for a personal, mini-counseling session with a cardiologist to review their risk and to provide recommendations for follow-up care with their doctors.
