Our Radiation Oncology team specializes in prostate cancer
If you've just been diagnosed with cancer, you have some decisions to make. We can help. When it comes to the treatment of cancer, accept no substitutes. Go to a place you can trust.
We opened our Comprehensive Cancer Center in 1995, and Community Hospital was the first healthcare organization in this area to receive the highest accreditation possible for a community hospital from the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer, a distinction we still proudly carry today. We were also the first hospital in our region to offer state-of-the-art linear accelerator technology normally found only at major urban teaching hospitals, a pursuit to which we remain diligently committed.
We have been a full-service radiation oncology facility since 1972.Our treatment options for prostate and other cancers - which feature four distinct high-energy, X-ray beams to fully customize your treatment - represent the latest in radiation therapy:
- IGRT (since 2006) - Image-guided radiation therapy. This therapy allows radiation oncologists to get a clear view of the tumor and track any changes to ensure precise treatment of cancer cells and sparing of surrounding healthy tissue.
- IMRT (since 2002) - Intensity-modulated radiation therapy. This therapy is designed to give the tumor the highest possible dose of radiation without affecting healthy tissue.
- 3D conformal radiotherapy (since 1999) - three-dimensional treatment approach.
- Radioactive seed implants (since 1997) - Tiny seeds are implanted directly in the prostate for minimal tissue damage.
- Hormonal therapy - Treatment that shrinks and slows prostate cancer.
- Stereotactic radiosurgery (since 2007) - Specialized, focused treatment for tumors that allows a very precise area to be treated without damaging the surrounding tissue.
- Orthovoltage radiotherapy - Specifically designed for the treatment of skin cancer.
