About the Auxiliary
The Community Hospital Auxiliary is recognized as one of the outstanding service organizations on the Monterey 
Peninsula and as a leader among hospital volunteer organizations in California.
Founded in 1955 by eight community-minded women, the Auxiliary has grown to include over 320 adult volunteers, 20 collegiate volunteers, and 125 junior volunteers, both men and women.
Volunteers contribute over 80,000 hours of service to the hospital each year.
Volunteers perform the following services throughout the hospital:
- Blood Center: assist Blood Center staff with mobile blood drives throughout the community.
- Breast Care Center: greet patients, assist patients and staff.
- Emergency: provide liaison between clinical staff, family members, and patients undergoing emergency treatment.
- Forest Pavilion: greet visitors and direct them to patient rooms and other locations throughout the hospital.
- Fountain Court: take orders, serve food and beverages in visitor cafe.
- Gift Shop: staff retail store offering patient-related gifts.
- Intensive Care Unit: assist visitors in ICU waiting room; direct and screen visitors.
- Newspapers/Magazines: deliver newspapers to patients and magazines to hospital lounge areas.
- Office: support volunteer services by performing clerical duties.
- Outpatient Surgery: provide liaison between clinical staff and families of patients undergoing surgical procedures.
- Reception Desk: assist patients during admission and discharge, deliver flowers and e-greetings, and greet and direct visitors.
- Surgery: assist patients checking in for surgery; direct and screen visitors; and provide liaison between clinical staff and patients’ families.
- Telecare: a free service for housebound community residents; we call to make sure that you are okay.
