This informational meeting by surgeon Dr. Mark Vierra is free and open to the public. Attendance is highly recommended before making an appointment for weight-loss surgery consultation. Topics include the biological basis for obesity; strategies for weight loss; and surgical options, outcomes, and complications. Family members are encouraged to attend.

Weight-loss surgery support group: Before surgery and in the first year  

6:30-8:30 p.m. second Thursday of each month

Led by a registered dietitian from Community Hospital, this support group focuses on patients who are considering weight-loss surgery or who have recently had it. The group setting provides accurate nutritional information, support, and accountability. It is strongly recommended but not required for all patients considering weight-loss surgery. Family members are encouraged to attend. 

Advanced weight-loss surgery support group

6:30-8:00 p.m. fourth Wednesday of each month
Community Hospital
Conference rooms A, B, and C
Led by a registered dietitian from Community Hospital, this group is for those who had gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery at least a year earlier. (November meeting will be fifth Wednesday, Nov. 30, due to Thanksgiving holiday.)  

Weight-loss surgery banding support group

7:00-8:30 p.m. fourth Thursday of each month
Community Hospital
Cancer Center classroom
For those with adjustable gastric bands (Lapband and Realize), providing peer-to-peer support with professional guidance and education for the banded lifestyle and meeting weight-loss goals. Note, there is no meeting in November or December.

After weight-loss surgery: Back on track

10:00-11:30 a.m. second Saturday of each month
Cancer Center classroom
Lecture series with a variety of topics designed to help people better obtain and maintain their weight-loss goals after surgery. Seating is limited. Call 649-0808 or e-mail drvierrasoffice@montereysurgery.com to reserve space. Note, there is no November meeting.

Preparing for surgery: What can you eat afterward?
