Pulmonary Wellness Services
Asthma educators assist adults, children, and parents of children with asthma in developing a personal asthma action plan. The plan includes information and training on asthma triggers, medications, early warning signs, peak flow monitoring, when to call the doctor, allergy control strategies, and exercise guidelines.
Community Hospital's pulmonary rehabilitation program is an eight-week medically supervised exercise and education program for individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, chronic bronchitis, chronic asthma, cystic fibrosis, as well as pre/post lung surgery. Participants learn how to manage respiratory symptoms, increase activity, decrease anxiety, and minimize shortness of breath. Individual treatment plans include exercise prescription/progression, energy conservation, bronchial hygiene, and medication management.

Community Hospital now offers High Altitude Simulation Testing (HAST) through the outpatient Pulmonary Wellness Program. This test will enhance safety for passengers with lung disease when traveling by airplane and/or automobile to high-altitude locations by evaluating their need for supplemental oxygen.
