Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s Tyler Heart Institute has brought advanced technology to its electrophysiology lab, the place where atrial fibrillation and other abnormal heartbeats, or arrhythmia, are treated.

EP lab

Electrophysiology procedures include:

Complex ablations to destroy cells causing irregular heartbeat

  • Atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter
  • Supraventricular and ventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions, including epicardial foci

Device implants

  • Cardiac resynchronization therapy, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, permanent pacemaker
  • Leadless pacemaker — Micra® device
  • Left atrial appendage closure with Watchman® device, to reduce risk of stroke and use of blood thinners

Our doctors

Dr. Fowler

Steven Fowler, MD

Dr. Fowler has been medical director of clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula since 2018. Previously, he served as director of the Inherited Arrhythmia Clinic at New York University Langone Medical Center. He has performed more than 8,000 procedures to treat atrial fibrillation and other irregular heart rhythms, including more than 400 at Community Hospital.
