Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula
A broad range of advanced and general endoscopy services are provided at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula to diagnose and treat conditions and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts, and liver.
Services include:
- Endoscopic ultrasound
- Fine needle aspiration/biopsy
- Cancer staging
- Fiducial placement— placement of markers to guide radiation therapy
- Barrett’s esophagus radiofrequency ablation
- Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
- Spyglass cholangioscopy — visual examination of bile ducts
- Electrohydraulic lithotripsy — breaking up stones in the pancreatic and bile ducts
- Difficult stone extraction
- Biliary and pancreatic duct stenting
- Pseudocyst drainage — removal of fluid that forms on the pancreas
- Removal of esophageal, gastric, duodenal, and colonic polyps
- Esophageal dilation and stent placement
Michael Mendoza, MD
Dr. Mendoza graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine, where he was awarded the UCLA Chancellor’s Humanitarian Award for Community Service for helping care for underserved community members. At UCLA, Dr. Mendoza also completed a residency in internal medicine and a research-based gastroenterology fellowship in molecular and medical pharmacology, evaluating pancreatic cancer. After three years of clinical gastroenterology practice at Kaiser Permanente in Southern California, Dr. Mendoza returned to UCLA as a clinical Instructor and completed an advanced interventional endoscopy fellowship in endoscopic ultrasound, oncologic endoscopy, and endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic conditions. He has practiced Monterey Bay GI Consultants since 2012.
