MONTEREY, Calif. – More than 1,000 people are expected to gather to celebrate the courage, fortitude, and persistence it takes to live with a cancer diagnosis as Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula holds its 15th annual Cancer Survivors’ Day.

Cancer survivors, their families, and supporters are invited to a free celebration on Saturday, August 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.

This special gathering acknowledges, supports, and honors cancer survivors with fun, fellowship, food, and entertainment.

The day’s activities include a barbecue lunch featuring local doctors at the grill; live music and entertainment; a group art project; the Hands of Hope mural created by survivors with their hand prints, signatures, and number of years they've survived; face painting; an inflatable slide; group photos; and clowns.

Those interested in attending Cancer Survivors’ Day should RSVP by calling 622-2844.  The event is sponsored by Community Hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center with assistance from the American Cancer Society.
