CARMEL/MARINA, Calif. — Six doctors have joined Peninsula Primary Care (PPC) at its offices in Carmel and Marina and are accepting new patients.

Dr. Eugene Young Lee, a psychiatrist, Dr. Stella B. Legarda, a neurologist, and Dr. Harry Nervino, an internist, have joined PPC in Carmel at 275 The Crossroads, Suite A, off Highway 1 and Rio Road, near Safeway.

Dr. Luanne Carlson, Dr. Lellivi Carmen, and Dr. Evangelina Martinez, who practice family medicine, have joined the PPC office at Peninsula Wellness Center, 2930 2nd Avenue, Suite 200, at Imjin Parkway in Marina.

All six doctors are board-certified in their specialties.

The two primary care centers were opened to help ease a serious shortage of doctors, a problem faced across the country. The shortage is particularly acute for those over age 65 and on Medicare because some doctors won't accept the coverage due to low government reimbursement rates. Peninsula Primary Care, an affiliate of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, accepts most health insurance plans, including Medicare. The Carmel office may be reached at (831) 718-9701, and the Marina office is at (831) 582-2100. Information may also be obtained at PPC’s web site,

Peninsula Primary Care opened its first office in Carmel in 2009 and its second in Marina 2011. The centers have a total of 12 doctors and a nurse practitioner, most of whom are accepting new patients. Peninsula Primary Care is a subsidiary of Community Hospital Foundation, the nonprofit parent company of Community Hospital of the Monterey
