MONTEREY, CA — The newest and largest office of Montage Medical Group opened today (Monday, May 21, 2018) in Ryan Ranch and will eventually house more than 40 doctors and other clinicians.
The 60,000-square-foot building includes 91 examination rooms, 5 family consultation rooms, and a room for community education events.
The first doctors at the site are:
- Martha Blum and David Wilson Keller, specialists in infectious disease
- Shinkai Hakimi and Nupur Sinha, specialists in pulmonology and critical care
- Resmi Premji and Leonard Sanders, specializing in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolism
By the end of 2018, the office is also expected to include primary care doctors, internists, and mental health specialists.
“We started Montage Medical Group because, like the rest of the nation, we have a serious shortage of doctors,” says Dr. Steven Packer, president/CEO of Montage Health, parent company of the medical group. “Through Montage Medical Group, we have recruited more than 40 doctors and other healthcare providers, who in 2017 had more than 90,000 patient visits. In the next five years, we expect to more than double the number of doctors, helping to ensure that our community members have access to care.”
The first Montage Medical Group office opened in Carmel in 2009 and there are now seven locations, including sites in Marina and Monterey.
The Ryan Ranch space was designed by care providers and patients for care providers and patients, says Dr. Anthony Chavis, chief medical officer for Montage Health. A group of 23 people built actual-size models of interior spaces out of cardboard and then tested them, going through the process that patients, office staff, nurses, doctors, and others do in the course of typical office visits.
“The resulting design focuses on preserving privacy and dignity for patients and promoting personal interaction between patients and their doctors,” Chavis said. “It sets a standard for medical office buildings not only in California, but in the United States.”
