MONTEREY, Calif. — In support of National Recovery Month, Monterey County Prescribe Safe Initiative, Community Human Services (CHS), Montage Health, and Valley Health Associates have partnered to host the first Monterey County Overdose Awareness and Prevention Day.
Attendees of this free event will learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an opioid overdose and how to properly administer Naloxone, a version of Narcan, to reverse a potentially deadly overdose. All participants in the training sessions will receive one box with two doses of Naloxone free of charge. Narcan counteracts the life-threatening effects of an opioid overdose. Attendees will also learn about opioid addiction in Monterey County and what is being done to reduce it. In addition, participants will memorialize those who have passed away and celebrate those who have recovered from addiction.
The event is open to Monterey County residents of all ages and will be held on Saturday, September 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Monterey Bay Event Center, 249 10th Street in Marina. A community resource fair, medical experts, and refreshments will be available.
Registration is not required. For more information, visit www.montagehealth.org/prescribesafe or call (559) 259-4578.
