MONTEREY, Calif. — A national webinar by the American Hospital Association on Tuesday will focus on Prescribe Safe, the effort led by Montage Health and partners in Monterey County to reduce opioid abuse and misuse.
The hour-long session will feature Dr. Reb Close, an emergency physician at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and founding member of the Prescribe Safe Initiative, Dr. Casey Grover, director of the emergency department at Community Hospital, and Kevin Causey, vice president and chief development officer of Montage Health Foundation. They will share takeaways and successes of the initiative. The goal of the webinar is to provide other healthcare providers a model that can be replicated in other communities, according to the American Hospital Association. The association will also be working with Close and Grover to develop three podcasts on the subject.
Prescribe Safe is a community-based project that brings together the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, law enforcement, all four hospitals in Monterey County, physicians, and other community partners in response to concerns about prescription medication misuse. The initiative guides, educates, and provides resources for local physicians and patients in the safe use of prescription medications and promotes safe and effective pain management.
