Dr. Michael Davis

MONTEREY, Calif. — Dr. Michael Edward Davis was honored with the Physician Recognition Award for 2020 by his peers on the medical staff at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

Dr. Davis has practiced at Community Hospital since 1994, caring for thousands of patients and the community. Dr. Davis held numerous leadership roles, including Member at Large, Vice Chief of Staff, and Chief of Staff (2015-2016), and medical director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (2017-present). He also served on the hospital’s Bylaws Committee, Medical Executive Committee, Physician Excellence Committee, and many others. Dr. Davis was honored October 21 at the annual meeting of the hospital’s medical staff and presented the award by Dr. Matthew Fritsch, the current chief of staff.

Dr. Davis is known not only for his expertise and tireless service, but also his kindness and generosity of spirit. Prior to medical school he was a physical therapist who worked with deaf and blind children. He loves to build things, and when he was a physical therapist, he built special equipment for the kids with mobility issues so they could sit upright. He was a flight surgeon in the army. When Dr. Davis is not healing, he’s running and has completed more than 50 marathons.

Dr. Davis graduated from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and his residency at Silas B Hays Army Hospital in Fort Ord. Davis and his wife, Pamela Rogers, have four children – one is a hospitalist like his father, and another is currently in medical school.
