MONTEREY, Calif. — The Women’s Forum for Health, an annual event that usually sells out, is being held virtually this year with no limit to the number of people who can attend — and it will be free.

The Women’s Forum for Health, an initiative of Montage Health Foundation, was started 20 years ago by engaged community members to raise awareness and philanthropic support for community health and wellness issues, including advancing healthcare for women and families. With the theme Advancing Health, Hope, and Resilience, this year’s event celebrates the 20th anniversary and features a panel of Montage Health medical leaders talking about their experiences and lessons learned in the COVID-19 pandemic. The panel features:

Dr. Martha BlumDr. Martha Blum

Dr. Martha Blum, medical director of infection prevention at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, who has been a leader in Montage Health’s pandemic efforts

Dr. Melissa HartDr. Melissa Hart

The Women’s Forum for Health usually draws more than 300 community change-makers and philanthropic leaders together each year to create lasting impact for community health. In its two decades, the forum has raised over $1 million for initiatives and services of Montage Health that impact the health and wellness of women and families in our community. Funds have supported a pediatric wellness program to improve nutrition and reduce obesity, a Monterey County-wide diabetes initiative, breast cancer care for women who can’t afford it, cardiac care, and more.

While this year’s event is free, it has a fundraising goal of $220,000, with donations and sponsorships supporting Montage Health Foundation’s COVID-19 Response and Relief fund. The fund provides critical resources for healthcare heroes and patients as the pandemic continues into the fall. Gifts to the fund are already having impacts; contributions have been used to purchase ultraviolet technology to safely clean and reuse N95 masks, equipment to double the capacity for testing COVID-19 patients at Community Hospital, and support for staff who have been adversely affected by the pandemic.

The event is from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 15. Registration is required; text Montage to 91999 or go online to www.montagehealthfoundation.org/wfh2020 to register. If you register but cannot attend, a recording will be sent to you afterwards. The event website is also where the event will be held virtually. www.montagehealthfoundation.org/wfh2020
