Taking care of junior volunteers

Auxiliary gives college boost to nine volunteers

“We had initially planned to provide three, one-time $1,000 awards,” says Auxiliary past president Ray Lorenz, who proposed the scholarships and oversaw the competition. “But we were so impressed by the quality of the applicants that we upped the ante to five and also gave out four $250 scholarships.”

Students were judged on the merit of their junior volunteer  performance, academic achievement, and extracurricular accomplishments, as well as recommendations by community members. The winners, who range from a star soccer player to an Eagle Scout, have each volunteered hundreds of hours of times making Community Hospital a better place for patients and their families.
