Skilled nursing care
Registered nurses staff Westland House 24 hours a day. Your nurse will work directly with your doctor, providing detailed monitoring of your health and progress, making sure you get the therapies you need, and organizing a customized plan for your care while you are at Westland House.
If you have come to Westland House for rehabilitation, our licensed physical, occupational, and speech therapists will work with you and your doctor to create a plan to suit your individual needs. Most likely, you will have physical therapy twice each weekday, with a lighter schedule on the weekends. Westland House has a fully equipped rehabilitation gym.
An occupational therapist will work with you once each day, focusing on daily activities such as cooking, lifting, and getting dressed. These may sound like simple tasks, but after a serious operation, you may need to learn to do things a bit differently to avoid strain or injury.
Patients enrolled in Community Hospital's hospice program, a home-based service, sometimes require short inpatient stays at Westland House to get symptoms under control or to provide brief respite to primary caregivers at home. If so, your hospice team will work closely with the Westland House staff to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible and can return safely to your home.

A healing environment
Westland House was built with healing in mind. Each of the 28 private rooms features large windows and a secluded balcony or patio so patients can enjoy the natural beauty of their surroundings. The rehabilitation gym overlooks our beautiful rose patio, and the orchid garden can be enjoyed from the meditation room. The house has a large back porch that patients and visitors are welcome to enjoy anytime. On warm days, it is not uncommon for lunch to be served on the porch.
A home away from home
During your stay at Westland House, we want you to feel right at home. Visitors are welcome 24 hours a day, with access to our family kitchen, shower, and children's playroom. Each patient room is designed to accommodate an overnight guest.
The house has two large, comfortable sitting rooms for reading, visiting, or watching movies. Patients can even arrange to have their own pet visit, or host a small gathering such as their weekly bridge club meeting.
Activities at Westland House are planned around the interests of our patients. These may include luncheons, birthday parties, game nights, arts and crafts, and more. Volunteers visit with therapy dogs twice each day.
Patients can also choose books or movies from our large collection to enjoy in their own rooms, or in one of the family rooms.
When you leave
The average stay for Westland House patients is less than two weeks. Our discharge planner and medical social worker will work with you and your loved ones to make your transition home go as smoothly as possible. They will help you obtain adaptive equipment, assistive devices, or in-home care services as needed.
If long-term care is needed, we can help you make arrangements for transfer to a facility of your choice.
