Montage Health infectious disease expert customizes public health guidance for businesses

Federal, state, and county public health recommendations for COVID-19 can be complicated and confusing for Monterey County businesses. Enter Montage Health. One of our infectious disease experts, Dr. Geraldine Taplin, is available to review employers’ workplace health-safety protocols, integrate them with current public health requirements, and create a customized plan to keep employees healthy and safe. Dr. Taplin has met with more than 30 local businesses in a variety of industries, from agriculture and hospitality to retail and banks, to ensure they are complying with public health guidelines.

Dr. Taplin’s recommendations typically cover two vital areas – how to keep the workplace safe and what to do if there is an infection in the workplace. Her expertise can help your business remain open, safe, and thriving during these unprecedented and uncertain times.

If your Monterey County business is interested in a consultation with Dr. Taplin, please contact Community Hospital’s corporate accounts manager Gene Fischer at or call (831) 658-3983.

How to keep your workplace safe during COVID-19

Every workplace is different. Integrating health guidelines successfully sometimes can be difficult. Dr. Taplin can help translate those guidelines to fit individual company needs, with a focus on:

  • Physical environment of each workplace
  • Distancing protocols
  • Building ventilation
  • Screening and partitions separating workers from each other and the public
  • Protections against other forms of public contact
  • Healthcare screening protocols for employees
  • Training of employees about safety measures and protocols at work and home

What to do if there is an infection in the workplace

Dr. Taplin is working one-on-one with employers to help them navigate this difficult process and ensure they have a detailed plan if an employee tests positive for COVID-19. Her consultation includes review and recommendations including screening employees, contract tracing, safe return to work and quarantine.

Employers’ response to Dr. Taplin’s COVID-19 consultations

“During our review, Dr. Taplin was extremely professional, informative, and thorough with her recommendations. She took the time to answer each question and made the experience very valuable.”
—Kelli Carter, Sakata Seed Co.

“Dr. Taplin is a gift. She has come at such a relevant time of need and brings such wisdom and discernment, humor and logic. After not quite knowing what to expect, we talked and she let me know what she was offering. I asked if she would be so kind as to consider coming to our campus to look at what we had set up as our mitigation plan as well as to review our infection prevention process and tour our skilled nursing unit and other areas of our campus, including dining, fitness, therapy rooms and our clinic to offer any guidance.

Since those initial meeting days, she has met with me and our medical director to review policies related to COVID-19 for our greater campus, and participated in our local, weekly skilled nursing information and support group. She consistently brings something of value to our conversations. I believe we found an active advocate and liaison in Dr. Taplin. So grateful she came out of retirement!”
—Chris Regan, Carmel Valley Manor

“Dr. Taplin has been a lifesaver in such a unique and challenging time. Her knowledge and expertise has helped me navigate various COVID-19 situations at the Club that I’m not sure I would have been able to do confidently without her help. I honestly have no idea what I would have done without her. She is very quick to respond to my cries for help and has not once made me feel like I am bothering her or asking for too much. I am forever grateful for her assistance.”
